Stunning Spaces Made for Australian Living
In coastal Golden Beach, Queensland, builder David Newton wanted a space that embraced the lifestyle we love: open, relaxed and built for every season. His gable patio and deck extension transformed his simple beach shack into a year-round place to gather, unwind and enjoy his surroundings, family and downtime.

David used Ausdeck’s insulated patio system with a marine-grade finish to stand up to his coastal conditions. Paired with low-maintenance Trex composite decking, he achieved a durable, easy-care floor. With RangeView™ operable shutters and Quick Screen aluminium slats, an open dining area on one side and a more private lounge on the other doubled his returns.
Living in a coastal area, we’re no strangers to unpredictable weather, from seasonal rains to tropical storms and gusty winds. So, when planning our home renovation, choosing materials capable of withstanding these conditions was important.

The Execution
David designed the extension to seamlessly connect with his existing roofline, using a gable style to create height, airflow and natural light. He planned the layout around how the space would be used each day, positioning the dining and entertaining zone to the left for easy access and flow, and creating a sheltered lounge to the right for privacy and protection from changing coastal weather. Every element of the build was arranged to bring more usable, comfortable living space to a compact beach home without altering its relaxed character.
The Result
The extension created a spacious, year-round living area that blends smoothly with the original home. The new layout now supports two defined zones: an open dining and entertaining space, and a sheltered, secluded lounge. The upgrades allow David and his family to enjoy their coastal lifestyle in all seasons.
